GAVIN PETER RENNISON – Whitley Bay

Febuary 18, 2020

A BABY-SITTER who abused a child he was supposed to be looking after has been jailed.

Tom Storey, prosecuting, said Gavin Peter Rennison, 39, went into the girl’s bedroom in York when he thought she was sleeping and sexually assaulted her.

But she was awake.

When her mother returned, the girl went downstairs and Rennison tried to get her to go back upstairs.

But she ran to her mother.

She was so hysterical it took her mother some time to calm her down and listen to her account.

Rennison is not related to the child.

When Rennison’s partner heard what had happened, she ordered him to leave the house they shared.

He was missing for more than a day and police finally found him sleeping in a layby on the York Outer Ring Road. He had been drinking and later pleaded guilty to a drink driving offence at York Magistrates Court.

Rennison, formerly of York and now of Whitley Bay, Tyneside, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse and was jailed for two years.

He was also put on the sexual offenders’ register for 10 years.

“It is baffling how a man of 39 years and of previous good character could commit such an offence,” said his solicitor advocate Keith Whitehouse. “He himself is struggling to come to terms with what he has done. He wholly regrets his actions.”

Mr Storey told York Crown Court the child’s mother believed it was safe to leave the girl in Rennison’s charge when she went out for the evening.

The child has been badly affected psychologically by the incident and has problems with nightmares.

The Recorder of York, Judge Sean Morris, said: “The ongoing effects (on the child) will not probably be known for some time. Hopefully she will be able to put it into the past.”

DAVID NICHOLSON – of Gatacre Street, Blyth

January 28, 2020

A paedophile who confessed to raping a child after he crumbled under the pressure of a polygraph test has been jailed for more than 9 years.

David Nicholson, 46, admitted sexually assaulting a girl – before the test he volunteered to take had even begun.

Nicholson was arrested by police in 2018 after being contacted by an online child activist group – claiming Nicholson had agreed to meet up with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

It was then he agreed to take a polygraph test, commonly referred to as a lie detector. But before it even started he crumbled under the pressure and confessed to the historic attacks.

When approached by Detective Constable Steve Hawkins of Northumbria Police, his victim, now an adult, bravely revealed what had happened.

Nicholson, of Gatacre Street, Blyth, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on November 11 and plead guilty to one count of rape against a child under 16 and six counts of indecent assault.

At the same court, on Thursday (January 23), he was sentenced to nine years and four months behind bars.

In a statement read to the court, his victim said: “I had buried the memories of the abuse for so many years.

“I didn’t believe I was strong enough to revisit the memories and at first I told the officer that nothing happened and I was not a victim of abuse.

“However, with a lot of thought I finally decided to re-contact Det Con Hawkins and tell the truth.

“I knew deep down in order to get closure I needed to finally tell people what had he did to me as a child.”

His victim says she struggled as a teen but that she is proud of the life she has created for herself.

She said: “I do believe that eventually, over the years and after many sad days and mistakes, I am managing to create a strong healthy life for myself.

“Nobody achieved this for me other than myself. I did it and I am proud. Proud that I came out at the other side and haven’t let this man’s abuse destroy my life entirely. He stole my childhood but he hasn’t stolen my adulthood.

“I hope he is punished by the Judge for what he has done and he realises the effect his abuse has caused, then hopefully I can close this chapter of my life, gain closure and finally move on from what this horrible man did to me.”

Det Con Hawkins has praised the victim for her bravery.

He said: “Initially and understandably, this was extremely hard for his victim to talk about. With the proper support and time, she made the incredibly brave decision to speak.

“Her courage has helped put a dangerous paedophile behind bars and I cannot praise her enough.

“She has pushed through the trauma of what happened to her to become a person she feels proud to be and have a bright future full of opportunity. I hope knowing her bravery has helped keep Nicholson off our streets helps contribute to an even brighter, happier future.”

KEVIN WATSON – Stretford, Trafford

January 28, 2020

A Paedophile who sunk ’14 to 16 cans of Stella a day’ caught by undercover cops. ‘Divorced and lonely’, he said the sick chat was just ‘fantasy’

Police found a bag of children’s underwear at his house

Kevin Watson, 56, engaged in sexually explicit chats with two officers – one who was pretending to be a 13-year-old boy and another who said he was the dad of a 10-year-old girl.

Watson, from Stretford, Trafford, made arrangements to meet with the ‘girl’ via her father, telling him to give her a ‘soft drink with some vodka in it’ beforehand.

In chats with the ‘boy’, Watson asked if there were any ‘quiet places to park up’ near his home and said he wanted to perform sex acts on him.

Now Watson, who sent an inappropriate image, has been jailed for 26 months.

Manchester Crown Court heard Watson first came to the attention of police after a device using IP address linked to his home was found to have uploaded indecent images of children to the internet.

Police searched his home and found a bag of children’s underwear, as well as computer equipment which contained 67 indecent images, prosecutor Chloe Fordham said.

Later Watson began chatting online with an undercover office posing as ‘Luke’, who he said was a 13-year-old boy.

He soon began sexualised chat with the ‘boy’ and said he was ‘curious’.

Watson, who searched online for terms including ‘naked teens’ and ‘naked mums and daughters’ was again traced by his IP address and police searched his home.

Despite knowing he was under suspicion, he carried on and began chatting with another undercover officer, ‘Simon’, posing as the father of a 10-year-old girl.

Watson asked for pictures of her and made arrangements to meet up so he could sexually abuse her.

He spoke on the phone with Simon and investigated getting the train to meet her, but he ultimately didn’t go through with it.

Watson was arrested at his home.

He later told officers that he would never abuse any children, and that it was just ‘fantasy’.

While sending the messages he was drunk, Watson said, and he would often drink 14 to 16 cans of Stella a day.

Electronic items were seized which were found to contain a further 55 indecent images of children.

Defending, Rachel Shenton said Watson’s online behaviour was ‘simply talk’ and ‘fantasy chat’.

She said Watson is a ‘chronic alcoholic’, who has is divorced and ‘lonely’.

Watson, of Poplar Street, Stretford, pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a child to sexual activity; one count of attempting to sexually communicate with a child; five counts of possessing indecent images; and one count of arranging an act which would involve the commission of a child sex offence.

NEIL OMER – of Burdale Close, Hull

Paedophile Neil Omer caught out after forgetting to delete sick images from his laptop before pawning it

Neil Omer was caught with more than a hundred indecent images of children

Neil Omer, 57, of Burdale Close, Hull, has taken his white Lenovo laptop to Cash Express in Holderness Road and the company held it for 28 days should Omer have wanted to buy back the item plus interest.

But as Omer had not returned after the set date, the manager at Cash Express accessed the laptop on April 12, 2018 in order to restore it to factory and settings and then sell it on.

Hull Crown Court heard the manager found two files entitled “boys” and the other “girls” and when she opened them she disturbingly discovered indecent images of children and reported this to the police.

The court was told that officers tracked Omer down and searched his home, where they found a total of 12 category A images, five category B images, 116 category C images along with seven category A video files and one category B video file.

Stephen Robinson, prosecuting, said that the images and videos were found across four devices and had been accessed over a two year period, with Omer also using internet searches including the words “jail bait” and “young girl erotica”.

“The category A images included penetrative sex of children between the ages of 10 and 16 years old including penetration of males with sex toys,” said Mr Robinson.

“Other prohibited images included cartoon-style illustrated images of children under the age of 12.

“In his police interview the defendant said he had accessed the images using Tumblr and thought that only lawful images could be uploaded to the site and gave a no comment answer to whether he is sexually attracted to children.

“The defendant’s past convictions are not similar and were for dishonesty, but he has nothing on his record since 1985.

0_Neil-Omer-escaped-jail

“The aggravating factors are the videos and the age and vulnerability of the children”.

Defending Omer, Kylie Peach said that he was “bitterly ashamed of his actions” and a lonely and vulnerable man with a heroin addiction and “clearly in dire need of assistance”.

“Mr Omer is bitterly ashamed of his actions and has been out of trouble for more than 30 years and is a man that can live comfortably within the parameters of the law,” she said.

“He says that he has ‘learnt his lesson’. He is a vulnerable man and his last relationship ended 10 years ago and since then he has lived a lonely life. He has no friends or family and goes for days without speaking to people.

“He struggles with his mental health and has schizophrenia and depression, but his medication has not been sufficient and his mental health has declined, with Mr Omer being referred to the crisis team before.

“He slipped into using heroin to mask his feelings but has self referred to Renew and wants to go on a drug rehabilitation programme to address his addiction.

“He is at a low risk of re-offending and at a low risk to the public and is clearly in dire need of assistance”.

Sentencing him to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, Recorder Tom Little QC gave Omer full credit for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity and also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a 30 day drug rehabilitation programme.

Addressing Omer, Recorder Little said: “You have not been in front of the criminal courts for many years and you have pleaded guilty for offences relating to indecent images and videos found on your electronic devices.

“On March 10 you took your laptop to Cash Express and they waited 28 days in case you wanted to buy it back with interest. But after this time was up, the manager accessed the laptop in order to sell it and found folders labelled ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ and this set about the investigation.

“On all four of your devices images and videos were found, spanning across two years in which you viewed them including internet searches.

“You have become addicted to heroin as well as suffering depression.

“Having considered the guidelines it seems that in conjunction with a sexual harm prevention order and assessment by the probation service for drug rehabilitation, there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation so I am willing to suspend your prison sentence.

TERRY TURNER – of Ambury Road, Huntingdon

January 24, 2020

h

A radio DJ has walked free despite being caught in a police paedophile sting operation trying to meet a child for sex at Greggs.

Terry Turner, 34, had been a presenter on a number of local radio stations including HCR 104fm in Huntingdon, Diesel City Radio in Peterborough and BCR in Bedford. Turner was most recently presenting on Embrace Radio in Northamptonshire.

According to his website, he also previously attended Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon and worked at One Stop in Godmanchester.

However in November, Turner began to send sexual messages to someone he believed to be a 14-year-old.

He even arranged to meet the child at Greggs in Huntingdon, with full intention of having sex with them.

However, Turner was caught out and before he could get to the bakery, was arrested by police on December 2.

He had fallen foul of a police sting, and the 14-year-old he believed he had been messaging was actually a police officer.

He was brought before magistrates in Peterborough the next day, where he was denied bail because he was “likely to abscond” and “likely to offend” again.

On Wednesday (January 22) Turner was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court, appearing via video link from prison.

Turner had pleaded guilty to two offences; inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He was spared an immediate prison sentence and according to neighbours, has returned to his address in Ambury Road, Huntingdon.

His home sits just 300 metres away from Huntingdon Primary School, with students walking past his door every morning and afternoon.

“You did that for your own perverted sexual gratification”

Passing sentence at Cambridge Crown Court, Judge David Farrell QC told Turner: “You became involved in conversations with a person you knew full well was only 14 years of age.

“Conversations of a sexual nature were undertaken and you discussed plans and arrangements to have sexual activity.

“You did that for your own perverted sexual gratification.

“That person was in fact a police officer, and the police intervened and you were arrested and taken into custody. You were interviewed, and to your credit you gave a full and frank admission, and you made this admission at the first possible moment.

“Fortunately, although not for you Mr Turner, this was a case where there was no child victim, but the police have identified you as someone who is a real risk to children.

“You have to learn that this behaviour is unacceptable. If you do this again, you will spend many years in prison.

“I take the view that rehabilitation is a much better way of dealing with this case to ensure safety of the public, in particular children than just simply locking you up. You will have this hanging over you not just as a sentence, but if you are foolish enough to do this again, the prospect of committing further offences leading to a very significant sentence.”

Turner was given two suspended prison sentences of 12 months and four months to run concurrently.

He was also have to attend 60 days at the Horizon programme, a programme for sex offenders who have a risk of reoffending, as well as 30 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also placed on the sex offenders list for 10 years, and had a mobile phone seized by police forfeited.

Turner appears to no longer work for Embrace Radio, and doesn’t appear on their schdules.

They have been approached for comment.

JOHN TOMLINSON – formerly of Shelley Drive, Rotherham

January 27, 2020

g

A 51-year-old man has been jailed for 11 years and four months after admitting a series of sex offences against a child.

Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation in July 2019 after the offences were reported.

John Tomlinson, formerly of Shelley Drive, Rotherham, also contacted police to report he had committed the offences after being confronted about the abuse, which happened between 2002 and 2009. He was arrested and later charged with a series of offences.

Tomlinson admitted indecent assault, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and four offences of sexual activity with a child when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on 29 November 2019.

He was sentenced at the same court on Friday (24 January). As well as the jail sentence he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life , given an indefinite restraining order protecting the victim and made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to have no unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Detective Constable Amy Revill, who led the investigation, said: “Tomlinson’s abuse will have a lifelong impact on his victim and no sentence will ever make up for that.

“However I hope she gains some comfort in the fact that he has now faced justice for his crimes. I would also like to thank Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Support Services – an independent sexual violence advisor service – as without their support we cannot achieve these outcomes.”

ANTHONY KELLY – Glasgow

January 27, 2020

f

A POLICE sergeant has left his job and faces jail after admitting the possession of child abuse images.

Anthony Kelly, 50, was convicted of possession of pictures of child sex abuse and “extreme pornographic” images of bestiality at Coatbridge police station.

He also admitted sending a WhatsApp message of intimate photos of a woman without her knowledge, consent, or approval.

The sickening offences took place while Kelly was in charge of locking up custody offenders at the Whittington Street police office.

Kelly, a divorced dad-of-one, admitted the crimes at Glasgow Sheriff Court last Thursday and will be sentenced in March.

He was arrested at his home by colleagues on January 29 last year.

Kelly’s employment with Police Scotland has now ceased but it is unclear whether he was sacked or resigned after the offences came to light.

When approached by the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser’s sister paper the Daily Record at his mother’s house in Uddingston, he said: “I don’t want to say anything about that, thanks.”

He and wife Lynn divorced in 2016, prior to the crimes being committed; they have a son aged 20.

The disgraced former officer has admitted three charges.

The first states that between August 18, 2018, and January 29, 2019, at an address in Glasgow and elsewhere he had in his possession indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children.

The second charge states that between January 2, 2019, and January 29, 2019, at the same address in Glasgow, he had extreme pornographic images depicting in an “explicit and realistic way” bestiality.

Kelly also admitted sending the intimate pictures of the woman on WhatsApp.

The charge states that, on October 23, 2016, at the same address in Glasgow, he behaved in a “threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm”.

The charge also states that he used WhatsApp messenger to send intimate images of the woman “without her knowledge, consent, or approval”.

The distressing images of children and the images of
bestiality were found on Kelly’s phone.

Sources have told the Daily Record that Kelly is no longer a serving officer.

He will be sentenced on March 5.

Hackney ex-army officer who groomed girls online jailed after teacher overheard victim call him ‘sugar daddy’

Roland Lamin sent explicit images of himself to his victims once he had gained their trust

An ex-army officer from Hackney who groomed underage girls online has been jailed for seven years.

Roland Lamin’s offending came to light when one girl was overheard at school by a teacher, talking about a man buying her things and referring to him as their ‘sugar daddy’.

Lamin, 29, of Redwald Road, Clapton, was found guilty after a trial of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child watch a sexual act, engaging in sexual communication with a child, making indecent images of a child and sexual assault.

Over the course of the case, he also breached his interim sexual risk order. Today (Monday, January 27), Lamin was sentenced to seven years imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The discharged army officer would use social media to target his victims, schoolgirls aged under 16 years. Once he built up a rapport with the girls, his messaging became sexual. He would send sexual explicit photographs and videos of himself and ask for sexually explicit pictures in return.

With one victim, depraved Lamin recorded Facetime calls they had in which he encouraged her to touch herself sexually.

Melissa Garner, from the CPS, said: “Lamin preyed on vulnerable young girls and used social media in the most depraved way to find young girls to provide him with sexual gratification.

“Lamin knew the age of the girls with whom he was chatting and would quickly escalate it to a sexual level. With one victim, he recorded Facetime conversations they had during which he encouraged her to touch herself sexually.

“This case only goes to highlight how important it is that young people are vigilant about people they engage with online. This sentence will protect more young girls from his corrupt ways.”

GARETH WELCH – of Bryn Y Gwynt, Ebbw Vale, Wales

January 27, 2020

d

A father who asked a 12-year-old girl to come to his house for sex was met at a train station by a paedophile hunter group.

Gareth Welch, 43, contacted a young girl’s Facebook profile and was immediately told she was 12 years old, but he asked her to be his girlfriend and if she wanted to have sex with him.

When she told him she didn’t know what sex was, he said he would show her a film.

He even offered to buy her a McDonald’s meal “as a treat” and asked her what presents she would like for Christmas in a bid to come and meet him.

When confronted by members of paedophile hunter group Our Team, Welch initially denied knowing the girl, who turned out to be a decoy, was 12 years old. But live stream footage of the defendant later showed him admitting to knowing the girl’s age.

A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Monday saw Welch pleading guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, via video link from prison.

The defendant of Bryn Y Gwynt, Ebbw Vale, was jailed for 18 months.

Sentencing, Judge Daniel Williams said: “You knew from the outset this was, what you thought to be, a 12-year-old girl with who you were communicating and almost immediately asked her to meet you.

“You are manipulative and a danger to young girls. You have an entrenched sexual interest in young girls and the offence is so serious only a sentence of immediate imprisonment can be justified.”

On November 16 last year, the defendant contacted the decoy from a Facebook profile in the name of David Lee and sent her a friend request which she accepted.

The father-of-three began messaging the decoy, and upon being told the girl he was speaking to was 12 years old, he asked to be his girlfriend and asked her to send pictures.

Welch sent pictures of himself and asked the decoy if she wanted to meet him and they agreed to meet on November 23.

Prosecutor Ruth Smith told the court that the defendant told the girl he was “teach her how to kiss”.

When the decoy said she was worried about being seen, he said she could come to his home where they would have food and play on an XBox, but the messages became sexual.

Welch asked the decoy if she “wanted to have sex” and told her that “sex is what a man and woman do to have a baby”. He also told her he would show her a film about sex.

He also told her she could stay at his home and could share a bed with him where he would “keep her warm by cuddling her”.

On November 23, Welch arrived at Risca train station, in Caerphilly, where he was met by members of Our Team who confronted him with evidence and filmed him for a Facebook live stream.

He was arrested by police at the scene and was remanded in custody. He initially gave a no comment interview but later indicated he would be making guilty pleas.

Ms Smith told the court that Welch had a previous conviction for sexual activity with a child under 16 from 2001, for which he was given a community order. He also had recent convictions for battery in 2017 and harassment in 2018.

Defence barrister Jeffrey Jones said his client regretted his actions and was remorseful and contrite.

He said: “He was leading an isolated form of lifestyle away from his former partner and children. He knows the live streaming of his arrest and admissions on Facebook caused difficulty in his neighbourhood and his house has been damaged.”

Welch was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

MUHANAD ADEM – Leeds

January 27, 2020

a

A fake taxi driver has been jailed for 12 years for raping a University of Leeds student.

On December 13 2018, the victim had spent a night out with friends and got into the back of Muhanad Adem’s car, thinking it was a taxi.

She typed the postcode of her address into Adem’s phone, but he drove in a different direction, and then he raped her in the back of his vehicle, the court heard.

He then drove off again, but the victim managed to escape through the car window, and alert friends that she had been raped.

A jury took less than three hours to reach a unanimous guilty verdict on December 20, 2019.

Claire MacDonald from the CPS said: “This was a brutal and opportunistic attack, late at night on a vulnerable young woman, who has been left devastated. The impact of sexual violence of this kind goes far beyond any physical injury and its effects for the victim are long-lasting and traumatising.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victim who has displayed immense courage and dignity during the investigation and prosecution. As a result Adem is today beginning a lengthy prison sentence.

“Our thoughts remain with her, as they have been throughout.”
